County of Berks is currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Staff Nurse for a pool position at Berks Heim Nursing. This position is available for all shifts. As an RN Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for providing quality professional nursing care to residents in accordance with established policies.


Position Summary

The RN Staff Nurse is a registered nurse who has met all the legal requirements for registration in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In the absence of the unit Charge Nurse, the Staff Nurse may assume the role of Charge Nurse. The primary responsibility of the Staff Nurse is to provide quality nursing care to residents.


Position Responsibilities

As an RN Staff Nurse, your essential functions will include:

  • Assisting the Charge Nurse in the care and management of the unit.
  • Maintaining a therapeutic regimen for all residents on the unit.
  • Assessing residents, reviewing and revising nursing care plans and goals for each resident.
  • Implementing IV therapy as ordered according to policy and procedure.
  • Receiving and transcribing physicians' telephone orders as necessary.
  • Assigning and advising personnel assigned to the unit in the absence of the Charge Nurse.
  • Assisting in the guidance and orientation of new personnel.
  • Promoting continuity of care through good communication and cooperation with other departments.
  • Conducting unit rounds in the absence of the Charge Nurse to ensure that every resident is receiving quality care.
  • Keeping adequate inventory of supplies on the unit.
  • Conducting quality assurance (QA) monitoring and reporting.
  • Participating in in-service programs on a regular basis.
  • Assigning unit staff to attend in the absence of the Charge Nurse.
  • Admitting, transferring, and discharging residents.
  • Administering medications and treatments.
  • Making rounds with the attending physician in the absence of the Charge Nurse and bringing any changes in residents' conditions to their attention.
  • Providing emergency care if needed and promptly notifying the Supervisor.
  • Maintaining all nursing records in a proper and timely manner.
  • Maintaining a professional attitude toward residents, families, and visitors, dealing with their needs in a proper and tactful manner.
  • Notifying families of changes in residents' conditions or transfers in the absence of the Charge Nurse.
  • Having awareness of safety, environmental services, and maintenance needs on the unit and bringing them to the attention of the proper department.
  • Referring to the appropriate shift routine as needed.
  • Relieving the unit Charge Nurse as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
  • A current license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Leadership ability and the willingness to cooperate with other department heads and personnel when assuming relief Charge duties.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Ability to handle stress.
  • Physical presence on-site is required.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

The physical demands of this position include the ability to stand and be active during an entire work shift.

While performing the duties of this job, you may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, infectious waste, blood and body fluid, diseases, and conditions prevalent at the time. You may also be subject to emotionally distraught residents, family members, visitors, and personnel. The noise level in the work environment is typically minimal to moderate.


Job Type and Pay

This is a full-time position with a pay rate starting from $36.39 per hour.


Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree is preferred for this position. You should have at least 1 year of nursing experience.


Location

This position is located in Leesport, PA and requires in-person work.
