Job Summary

The WRC coordinator is a full-time twelve-month position devised to help the Writing and Reading Center to maximize the academic success of students inside and outside of the classroom.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of the Director of the Writing and Reading Center to assist in all areas of the Center's operation
  • Provide one-to-one writing tutoring to undergraduate student writers in various modes, including in person and online
  • Assist in scheduling, supervising, and evaluating all Writing Center staff
  • Assist in the onboarding, training, mentorship, and professional development of undergraduate tutors and serve as a mentor for tutors
  • Assist with new and existing Writing Center programs such as writing partnerships, workshops for students and faculty, and general outreach
  • Stay abreast of current scholarship, pedagogy, and best practices in the field, including attendance at scholarly conferences
  • Assist with the development and coordination of the delivery of supplemental interactive and informative workshops and other initiatives to enhance the offerings of the WRC
  • Monitor, evaluate, and adjust programs in response to educational effectiveness and student needs; coordinate outcome-based assessments, assist in the planning and development of programs and services
  • Develop, promote, and disseminate materials to advertise WRC services
  • Utilize surveys to generate unit and assessment reports in tandem with the Director for the various support activities listed above
  • Present weekly progress reports to the Director
  • Attend monthly Languages & Literature department meetings and WRC meetings
  • Assist with the overall strategic planning for the Center
  • Perform all other writing center-related duties as assigned by the Director
  • Offers instruction in English course(s)

Job Requirements Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to foster cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated work experience with diverse student populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities, and solve problems creatively and compassionately
  • Computer and technical literacy, with a good command of Microsoft Word and online learning tools
  • Prior writing center administrative experience and/or professional writing tutoring experience
  • College-level teaching experience

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
