State Of Vermont Probation & Parole Officers must be conscientious,
self-motivated individuals with the ability to think on their feet in a
fast-paced environment. You\'ll have a strong understanding of ethics
and boundaries as well as the ability to communicate and work in a team
setting.

Excellent writing sills
Great time management
Strong computer skills
Great organizational skills
Observation skills
Be detail oriented
Understanding of victim awareness, risk intervention strategies, and
case planning practices, plus the ability to maintain a professional
rapport with local law-enforcement agencies and community partners is a
must. Prior Corrections, law-enforcement, or military experience is
preferred for the position of Probation and Parole Officer I or II at
the Bennington Probation and Parole Office. The work will be performed
in an office setting with field work required. The hours are 7:45-4:30,
Monday-Friday. Some after hours and field work may occur.
Must attend six weeks of instruction at the Vermont Correctional
Academy.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed in a field office, correctional and community setting
and includes frequent interaction with potentially dangerous
correctional clients. High stress may be present, as is some danger of
assault. Evening, weekend, and alternating shift duty required to
provide necessary services and supervision. Field travel is necessary
and incumbents may be required to provide private means of
transportation. Work related court, community meeting, and Parole Board
appearances may be anticipated.
Minimum Qualifications
Master\'s degree in social work, criminal justice, human services,
psychology or a related discipline
OR
Bachelor\'s degree AND eighteen (18) months or more of experience in
human services casework
OR
High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of human
services casework experience
OR
Two (2) years or more as a Probation & Parole Officer I AND satisfactory
completion of training required by the department.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree or higher in social work, criminal justice, human
services, psychology or a related discipline and experience in the
delivery of casework, planning, and evaluation of offenders in a
correctional setting.
Military experience.
Special Requirements
Note:
Possession of a valid driver\'s license is required, and a
criminal background check will be performed prior to hire. Certain
convictions can be disqualifying.
Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to
the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards,
Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult
and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under
recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of
those who are current classified sta e employees seeking transfer,
promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons
exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
