POSITION SUMMARY: Marathon Petroleum Company’s Illinois Refining Division has an opening for Fixed Equipment Maintenance/Reliability Engineer. We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to provide fixed equipment program management and technical support for the site reliability, inspection, and maintenance teams . The Maintenance/Reliability Engineer will provide refinery support and manage on-going initiatives to maximize the mechanical availability of fixed equipment, piping, and facilities. The core hours of the position are Monday - Thursday 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM, also requiring off-hours and turnaround support as needed. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain a strong working knowledge of MPC specifications and standards as well as latest industry best practices ( RAGAGEPS ), technology and equipment design. Develop and deliver site training to educate, inform and guide refinery personnel on the application of technical standards and practices . Provide fixed equipment and piping technical support to Refinery work groups . Provide subject matter support in technical maintenance functions, such as bolted joint quality assembly, temporary repairs (mechanical clamps), and lifting and rigging. Provide quality assurance, technical support, and consistent application of MPC and industry standards, specifications, and procedures to Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Turnaround groups for new and existing equipment installations. Develop and manage maintenance/reliability driven programs to maintain the integrity of equipment and facilities, such as structural inspection and repair, fireproofing inspection and repair, and spring can inspection and repair. Promote a safe work environment by providing technical support to refinery safety systems and programs. Support Refinery compliance with Process Safety Management Mechanical Integrity for refinery fixed equipment and safety equipment . Perform and provide support for equipment Fitness-For Service (FFS) to address identified equipment deficiencies. Participate in maintenance, reliability or equipment-related incident investigations. Initiate and lead failure analysis for fixed equipment/piping events to understand causes for failures and identify effective corrective actions . Provide technical support for unit shutdowns and turnarounds including plan-of-the-plan assignments, planning, execution and system turnover . Ensure Management of Change (MOC) process is followed for any changes implemented . Ensure equipment repairs and new installations are properly documented and all process safety information (PSI) and mechanical integrity information is updated. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum (Required) Qualifications Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date) Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field. A valid Driver's License . Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future. Able to work off-hour duties such as plant shutdowns and routine on-call support. Preferred Qualifications Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred. Three plus years of post-degree Engineering experience working with fixed equipment and piping in the refining, petrochemical or other related heavy industry is preferred. Experience with fixed equipment design, applicable codes, and repairs as well as associated damage mechanisms are preferred.
