Library Assistant

Description We are seeking a Library Assistant for our team located in Rockville, Maryland. This role involves various tasks related to library operations and customer service. The Library Assistant will work in a team-oriented environment, offering a short term contract employment opportunity. Responsibilities: • Assisting library patrons with locating resources and information • Maintaining and organizing library materials such as books, audiovisual materials, and electronic resources • Processing new materials including labeling and inputting information into library databases • Assisting with library events and programs, including set up and breakdown • Addressing and resolving patron inquiries in a timely and professional manner • Keeping library spaces tidy and ensuring a quiet and respectful environment for all patrons • Checking in and out library materials and handling related patron account issues • Assisting with the maintenance of library equipment and technology • Supporting the library staff in daily administrative tasks • Contributing to the overall improvement of library services through suggestions and participation in relevant meetings. Requirements • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent • Prior experience working in a library or similar setting • Knowledge of library operations and procedures • Proficient in using library databases and systems • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • High attention to detail and accuracy • Ability to handle and organize library materials • Proficient in using computers and other office equipment • Capable of providing excellent customer service • Availability to work during library hours, including weekends • Ability to maintain confidentiality of library users' information.
