Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: You will perform as an Electrician in operating and maintaining all electrical components, panels, and circuitry for a major public works flood control structure as well as associated office buildings and public use area, sewage and water systems. Responsibilities Troubleshoot problems, interprets and applies engineering plans and specifications, and manufacturers blueprints, diagrams and manuals to isolate and solve problems. Operate, inspect, and maintain a variety of mechanical and electrical systems. Must ensure design and capability of new equipment is compatible with and capable of safe operation under expected loads. Perform variety of trades skill work such as carpentry, plumbing and grounds maintenance. Obtain and maintain agency license for load handling equipment to include a variety of cranes. Monitor river and/or lake stages at flood control project. Operate motorboat, pontoon barge, pick-up truck, dump truck equipped with pintle hitch, and various types of engineering equipment such as front-end loader, backhoe, bulldozer, and road grader. Maintain, repair, modify for accessibility, and occasionally constructs structures of concrete, block, and occasionally brick or other related materials. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties in electrical wiring, hydraulic systems, finished carpentry work, finished masonry work, plumbing systems, roofing and structural work. Skilled in operating a flood control facility and experienced in determining and calculating water releases for flood control purposes. Considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to perform light lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires some walking, standing frequently, climbing ladders and scaffolds, standing, some stooping, and bending. Work requires work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in variety of conditions. Inside a shop area subject to potential injuries from hand or powered tools and danger from flying splinters, chips, etc. Works outside in all weather, occasionally works in unheated building shells. Works on scaffolding, high ladders, or roof tops subject to danger of falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts, bruises, broken bones, infections. Frequently required to wear protective equipment and clothing, sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) 29 Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
