JOB DUTIES: General: The duties and responsibilities for this position are directly related to the agency mission regarding the number of official samples analyzed and analytical tests conducted under F.S. Chapter 487, 576, 578, 580, and 581. Assists the Bureau Quality Assurance Officer (QAO)/Quality Manager in maintaining the Quality Assurance (QA) policies and procedures and documentation needed to obtain and maintain The NELAC Institute (TNI) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025 Accreditation for the Bureau of Agricultural Environmental Laboratories (BAEL). Maintains the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for the Bureau of Agricultural Environmental Laboratories. Serves as the deputy LIMS Administrator. Conducts internal performance audits of the bureau's quality system and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Prepares internal proficiency samples for instrumental analysis according to SOPs—Validates analyses in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Maintains the LIMS system including at a minimum its more than 17,000 analysis test codes, 23,000 location codes, 300 Crystal report templates, 76 Excel calculation spreadsheets, 1,600 calculation scripts, and 237 Result Entry templates. Assist the Assistant Bureau Chief in implementing and testing new LIMS features. Assists the QAO in maintaining the Laboratories’ analytical reference standards database. Assists the QAO in generating and reviewing method performance statistics (control charting) for all laboratory testing methods. Performs analytical chemistry evaluation of various types of laboratory data including gas chromatograms, liquid chromatograms, photo-diode array spectrum, and mass spectrum generated through laboratory analysis to ensure that results are accurate and meet QA requirements for data integrity. Responsible for validating analyses in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Assists the QAO in reviewing method performance statistics (control charting) for all laboratory testing methods. Assists the QAO in writing Quality Assurance, LIMS, and Safety Standard Operating Procedures. Assists the Bureau Quality Assurance Officer (QAO) and management in taking corrective actions to repair out-of-control sample preparation and analysis methods. Responsible for following and implementing standard department safety procedures and protocols in the normal course of job duties. Assists the QAO in writing and maintaining SOPs in support of ISO 17025 Accreditation. Also, to maintain technical proficiency, the employee will be required to periodically travel to seminars, workshops, and conferences. Performs related duties as assigned or required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of laboratory testing and analysis procedures, techniques, and equipment. Ability to plan organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to analyze data relating to Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LCMS), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), and Inductively Coupled Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS).
