NHC Healthcare, Ft Sanders is a 166-bed post-acute 24-hour skilled nursing Health Care Center located at 2120 Highland Avenue, Knoxville, TN. We provide skilled nursing care to individuals recovering from strokes, joint replacement surgeries, cardiac procedures, and serious illnesses.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for maintaining clinical competency through the application of integrated nursing knowledge and skills, as well as demonstrating effective leadership and communication abilities. In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, and implement care. The ADON should possess organizational proficiency in regard to workflow and prioritize to meet patient care needs. Additionally, you will be expected to practice continuous quality improvement thinking and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the management team and develop an effective working relationship with the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and Medical Director.
- Participate in the development of center goals.
- Assist in the development and implementation of procedures to meet the center's goals.
- Develop positive partner relations policies and environment, ensuring firm, fair, consistent supervision and a department team.
- Administer policies and formulate procedures for the nursing department.
- Support and administer a departmental budget based on the nursing department's goals and projected revenues.
- Participate in establishing a competitive wage, salary, and benefit plan for nursing service staff.
- Support the operation of the nursing department in a cost-effective manner.
Specific Job Duties
- Participate in the development and maintenance of the nursing services' philosophy and objectives, standards of practice, policy and procedure manuals, and job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel.
- Assist in the development of a 3-year capital expenditure budget for the Nursing Department.
- Develop and maintain at least biweekly work schedules for the Nursing Department, posting and retaining copies as worked.
- Act upon recommendations from the Director of Nursing, RN Supervisors, and/or supervisory LPNs regarding hiring and termination of nursing personnel, and assist with recruiting as needed.
- Delegate and monitor orientation and initial training for nursing personnel.
- Coordinate with other department heads on any patient care needs.
- Participate in all center leadership team meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice nursing in the state employed (RN). If currently an LPN and in RN school, we will consider you for this role.
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience is required, with at least 1 year of leadership experience preferred.
