Summary The incumbent is a Social Worker Program Coordinator who manages the administrative and clinical aspects of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) and provides supervision and oversight to BHIP social workers at the facility and to general mental health social workers located in the Community Based Outreach Clinics at Salmon, Mountain Home, and Twin Falls. Serves on the Behavioral Health Executive Committee to help ensure that Behavioral Health Services continue to meet our mission 'to be a 'veteran-centric' integrated, healthcare organization, providing excellent healthcare, research and education. Helps develop plans and makes decisions that impact all BH programs and the Boise VAMC while guaranteeing these decision support all policies, requirements and the mission of the VA. Provides operational oversight of the BHIP teams composed of employees and trainees from Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Peer Support Specialists and Admin staff that provide all or some services to BHIP at the Boise VAMC location. Ensures the teams have daily huddles and weekly treatment team meetings. Incumbent ensures all of the teams are providing the following core services to Veterans on the BHIP teams: individual, couple, group and or family therapy for general mental health diagnoses, case management, medication management, BH nursing services, psychological testing, Tele-mental health services and same day access for immediate needs. Responsible for ensuring staff comply with required documentation standards in the electronic record which includes Mental Health Suite assessment and treatment plans, assignment of a Mental Health Treatment Coordinator, appropriate level of risk assessment, individual notes, documentation of referrals and placement of consults. Supervises employees to accomplish the work of the organization unit; exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised. Incumbent also has the role of assisting the Social Work Chief in managing the Social Work Trainee program and will have time reserved in order to do such. Provide emergency/crisis intervention services to outpatients experiencing acute psychological crises, helping to stabilize these individuals, assisting in the referral arrangements for transfer to a psychiatric facility for inpatient care if necessary and providing follow up care as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). GS-13 Social Worker Program Coordinator Grade Determinations: Experience and Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program manager must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all the following KSAs: (a) Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility. (b) Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive. (c) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). (d) Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care. (e) Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action. (f) Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget. (g) Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations Preferred Experience: Minimum of 3 years of administrative and clinical work in Behavioral Health; experience providing supervision to social workers and other staff, knowledgeable in EBP's, ability to pull and analyze data, experience coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, experience managing and providing operational oversite to a program with large number of staff, experience in performance improvement, experience developing SOP's, ensuring compliance with policies, and program development.
