Lutheran Life Villages is searching for a Life Enrichment Assistant who will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of recreational programming at our Inverness memory care assisted living campus. Essential Job Functions
- Works closely with the Life Enrichment Director regarding memory care programming and utilizing Teepa Snow and Eden concepts to ensure successful implementation and operational support of the concepts at the campus.
- Leads, mentors, models, and encourages the memory care team to implement person centered care by using Positive Approach to Care (PAC) and Eden Alternative concepts.
- Engages in life enrichment and models participation to assist staff engage comfortably in recreational activities with individuals.
- Models PAC concepts and coaches facility staff regarding Teepa Snow and Eden concepts for Memory Care.
- Provides leadership and guidance in recreational activity planning; involves persons who reside here, and their families.
- Engages the person who lives here and their families and encourages their assistance, feedback, and positive participation.
- Encourages and models the flexibility to prioritize PAC interactions with tasks that are not direct person care.
- Serves as an advocate by representing people’s needs and desires.
- Collaborates with Life Enrichment Director to identify individual interventions and goals for memory care persons.
- Encourages participation in recreational activities.
- Develop and implement programs to enhance the social, occupational, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical condition of the population.
- Ensure department compliance with state regulations. Report all areas of potential deficiency to Life Enrichment Director and Administrator.
- Ensure timely completion of activity documentation that may be required in all areas of the organization, including but not limited to quarterly activity documentation, any information needed for a care plan, attendance records and one on one interaction.
- Welcome new persons and introduce them to the recreational activity program. Evaluate individual needs and concerns.
- Help organize and arrange group outings.
- Help coordinate group parties/recreational activities.
- Assist with campus holiday decorations.
- Help coordinate intergenerational events relating to recreation with external community organizations.
- Help procure supplies/materials for crafts/recreation per season and/or scheduled recreational activities.
- Help maintain a shopping list for supplies needed for recreational activities.
- Participate in continuing education courses to keep certifications current and to promote new/innovative programs at Lutheran Life Villages including dementia training.
- Transport Residents to and from recreational activities as needed.
- Occasionally drive company van with persons who reside at Village at Inverness.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Life Enrichment.
Other Responsibilities
- Participates in some weekend and/or evening scheduling as needed.
- Adheres to ISDH regulations.
Job Qualifications
Education/Training:
a) high school diploma
b) Dementia certification preferred; or some type of dementia specialized training e.g. Teepa Snow Positive Approach to Care Trainer/Coach and/or Eden Alternative Certification.
Experience:
a) Minimum two (1) years’ experience working with persons in a memory care setting preferred.
b) Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
a) Ability to create and manipulate documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
b) Working knowledge of assisted living care rules and regulations.
c) Ability to plan, direct, coordinate, and implement overall care functions.
d) Ability to communicate effectively in English.
e) Excellent proven interpersonal, written, verbal and organizational skills.
