  POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs engineering review and analysis and develops traffic engineering reports and associated documents (work orders, traffic regulations, signal operating plans, traffic studies, sign designs, etc.) This includes field assessments, applying engineering principles and judgment to identify operational and safety deficiencies and appropriate remedial action. Includes participation in meetings and presentations, coordination with Department staff, affected external agencies and customers. Includes coordination of resources necessary to implement remedial action. Assist in the review of plan submittals generated by the Department and other entities. This includes ensuring plan submittals adhere to the Department's safety and design standards. Special emphasis will be on signing and pavement marking plans and traffic studies.

  Prepares Traffic Operations service requests to Operations Centers and/or prepares tasks for Design Build Push Button Contracts to address safety and/or operational issues. Assists with various contract management duties to include the oversight and administration of various contracts relevant to the District Traffic Operations Office.

  Participates in meetings with internal and external customers to represent Traffic Operation interests. Include providing useful commentary and review of work products. Includes correspondence and follow up contact as needed. Provides engineering and technical guidance for the District Traffic Operations Office Traffic Services Section.

  Assist in the maintenance of traffic features in the Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI) and traffic operations related databases. This includes features relating to traffic signals, speed limit signs and other such features; such as begin and ending milepost, support systems, number of connections, etc.

  Utilizes SignCad, Microstation and Geopak Computer Aided Drafting and Design programs and other software as needed to design and prepare scaled drawing/plan sheets for use in implementing traffic operations improvements on the State Highway System.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of traffic engineering concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques; Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices; Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation standards, manuals, guidelines and practices; Skilled in the use of personal computers and a variety of engineering software; Skilled in communication, including written, verbal and effective listening; Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, design standards, and manuals; Ability to apply engineering concepts, practices and functions; Ability to input and retrieve information from a computer database; Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret engineering data; Ability to work independently and make decisions; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma and two years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or An associate of arts or science degree in computer science, engineering technology, or similar relevant area of study; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, computer science, engineering technology or similar relevant area of study; or Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and has an Engineer in Trainee (EIT) certification in either Florida or another State; or An active International Municipal and Signal Association (IMSA) Sign and Pavement Marking certification.

  A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $478.40 will be added to the annual salary.
