/Have you always wanted to a part of the Montana Legislative Session? Are you responsible and good with public?/ We have an Assistant Infomation Desk Supervisor opening for the upcoming 2025 Legislative Session. This position is a short-term position with the Montana Legislative Services Division. Work shifts will start November 12th, 2024, and may continue through the term of the legislative session (end of April – beginning of May). Schedule will be roughly 7:30 am - 5:30 pm, Monday thru Friday with some Saturday hours if the legislature is in session. Any hours worked over 40 in a week will be paid as overtime at time and a half. The Legislative Services Division provides
nonpartisan
, independent services for the Legislature. Training will be November 8th, 2024.
Duties:
Supervises the Information Specialists including coordinating schedules; assisting in training; and answering any staff questions that arise. This position will sit at the front on of the Information Desk in the State Capitol and handle in person public and legislative inquires along with answering telephone inquiries from the public concerning the Legislature using a computerized bill status information system and a variety of other information aids; takes incoming telephone calls for legislators and inputs messages on a computerized messaging system according to office policies; and performs related duties as required.
Competencies:
General knowledge of state government and the legislative process; prior knowledge of Montanagovernment and legislative process preferred; and good knowledge of telephone procedures. Basic knowledge of supervision and human resources Skill in the use of the telephone and computer keyboard. Ability to: answer the telephone using appropriate etiquette; interact with the public in an extremely courteous manner: input telephone messages with speed and accuracy; learn to use computerized systems to record and find information; learn to use various information aids and choose among them for an appropriate source for answering questions; speak and write standard English fluently; maintain neutrality; and remain calm and function under pressure and occasional inappropriate verbal abuse from the public.
Education/Experience:
The minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required for entry at this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, with education or experience in government, public speaking, reception, and keyboarding preferred.
