Teacher Program Manager

The Oregon Coast Aquarium is seeking a Teacher Program Manager. The Teacher Program Manager works with the Director of Education and the education team to create a comprehensive vision for teacher professional development and curriculum resources that align with the Aquarium strategic plan.

The Teacher Program Manager will manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Aquarium’s Ocean Literacy program. Responsibilities include:

Establishing, maintaining & facilitating partnerships with informal education organizations and school districts
Assessing and addressing teacher and student academic needs
Conducting teacher workshops on-site, online, in the field, and at host schools/organizations
Aligning marine science activities with state/district standards
Disseminating programs/materials to school districts

The incumbent provides support to teachers and administrators across Oregon. The School Liaison works closely with the Education Team to align materials with the Aquarium’s on-site and off-site programming including lesson plans/curriculum, learning experiences, and support materials.

Required Degree and Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in education, educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of four years experience in a position related to K-12 education or curriculum development at an informal education organization. Any acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the background necessary to perform the functions of the position may substitute for the above.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Preferred practice teaching methods in formal and informal settings for both students and teachers
Extensive knowledge of educational program development
Academic standards, multiple learning styles, and other techniques relevant to formal and non-formal learning environments
Educational planning and program evaluation processes
Group dynamics and group problem-solving techniques, such as leading meetings, gaining support while dealing with complex subjects, resolving conflicts and reaching consensus

Ability to:

Effectively organize work, manage time, prioritize tasks, and follow both written and oral direction
Effectively lead field experiences as part of teacher professional development, including beaches, rocky intertidal, estuaries and coast forests
Be responsive to and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders served or impacted by programs
Effectively communicate ideas and program concepts, both orally and in writing
Use computers and standard, commonly accepted computer programs (MS Office products) is required
Work under limited supervision and as a member of a team

Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule and work weekends, nights, and/or holidays. The incumbent must be able to gain and hold a valid Oregon driver’s license. Must be able to travel to offer teacher professional development opportunities.
