GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains a passion for professional learning and working with staff and students to support innovative practices in the classroom.
  • Provides leadership and direct support to administrators and teachers with the integration and effective use of technology into all levels of curricula.
  • Assists with curriculum development as it relates to educational technology and 21st century teaching and learning.
  • Provides professional development and guidance for teachers to enhance their knowledge of emerging technologies and instructional strategies.
  • Coordinates, communicates with, and frequently meets with school level and division level administrators and technology staff to ensure that instructional technology is being utilized effectively throughout the school division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Works with classroom teachers to develop strategies for integrating technology into instruction in specific content areas;
  • Models classroom instruction in a digital environment as a collaborative effort with teaching staff;
  • Attends and conducts workshops for instructional staff to support 21st century teaching and learning;
  • Identifies, selects, creates and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs;
  • Analyzes and uses data for the evaluation of program effectiveness and makes recommendations for instructional improvement based on data analysis;
  • Develops and facilitates online and face-to-face professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students;
  • Develops technology support materials for teacher and student use;
  • Provides support as needed for hardware, software, and web-based programs, including training;
  • Provides guidance to schools in making decisions regarding technology purchases and discerning best fit for application in the classroom;
  • Collaborates with teachers and school leaders to identify and support instructional technology goals;
  • Serves on school and division committees as needed;
  • Plans and supports summer professional learning opportunities for division and school level training;
  • Supports teaching and learning in classrooms where each student uses a digital device;
  • Participates in required professional development;
  • Meets departmental and organizational deadlines;
  • Strives to remain current in technology trends and new programs and applications that could lead to innovation in the classroom;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: KSA's, Education

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency with instructional technology in a school environment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of an array of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies;
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding action research and inquiry as processes for building instructional capacity;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate coaching and staff development;
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of instructional technology and ability to identify, use, and assess appropriate pedagogical skills;
  • Demonstrates ability to apply current theory and research-based practices in adult learning;
  • Demonstrates effective skills in data management and analysis and the ability to guide colleagues’ interpretation and use of data;
  • Demonstrates strong presentation and written communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License.

At least three years of teaching experience.

Preferred: Master’s degree with coursework related to teaching methods and instructional technology.

LOCATION: Assigned Schools

WORK SCHEDULE: 11 Months or 12 Months - 7.25 Hrs.

SALARY SCALE: Teacher

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Instructional Technology Resource Specialist

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

Physical requirements and Disclaimer

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Work is typically performed in a school setting including computer labs and classrooms. Frequent travel to school sites throughout the County and occasional statewide or regional travel is required. Attendance at meetings outside the normal duty hours is sometimes required. Regular involvement made with curriculum specialists, principals and teachers throughout the School Division. Job requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and lifting of computer equipment unassisted. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential duty of this position.

– Eligible to all employees who work more than 20 hours per week Health Insurance – Hanover County Public Schools offers 3 health insurance plans through Aetna and contributes significantly toward the monthly premium. An opt-out credit is available for full-time and part-time employees who do not participate.

For those who participate in the High Deductible Plan, HCPS contributes annually to a Health Savings Account and employees can choose to contribute more to that account.

Dental Insurance – HCPS offers two plan options through Aetna.

Vision Insurance – HCPS offers a vision plan through VSP.

Time Off Benefits

  • Paid Holidays – 10- month and 11-month personnel follow the School Calendar. 12-month full-time classified employees receive 13 holidays per year (9 designated days and 4 floating days).
  • Vacation – 12-month employees earn 1 day of leave per month for their first four years of service, 1.25 days for 5 – 9 years of service, and 1.5 days for 10 or more years of service.
  • Sick Leave – Full-time employees earn one sick leave day per month (10 – 12 depending on length of contract) with unlimited accrual. Part-time employees will earn sick leave on a prorated basis.
  • Personal Leave – Full-time employees earn two days per year the first 3 years of service and 3 days per year with 3 or more years of service;

Savings & Retirement

  • VRS Retirement – Employees who work more than 5.5 hours per day participate in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). The benefit is 95% paid for by Hanover County Schools.
  • VRS Hybrid Retirement Optional Contribution Plan – HCPS offers an additional plan for Hybrid employees who can choose to contribute up to an additional 4% in voluntary contributions to the defined contribution component of the Hybrid Retirement Plan each month, which is matched to a maximum of 2.5% by HCPS.
  • Retirement Savings Plans – HCPS offers 403(b) and 457 plans through Empower. These plans allow employees to set aside pre or post tax dollars for retirement. HCPS contributes $250/year toward 403(b) account for non-VRS eligible employees. Any HCPS employee can make contributions to these plans.
  • Premium Conversion/Section 125 – HCPS allows employees to take insurance premium deductions on a pre-tax basis.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts – HCPS offers a Medical FSA and a Dependent Care FSA for eligible expenses.

Income Protection & Security

  • Life Insurance –Paid for 100% by HCPS for VRS eligible employees. The benefit is two times annual salary for natural death and 4 times annual salary for accidental death. Additional life insurance is available for purchase to cover spouse and children or to increase employee benefit.
  • Sick Leave Bank – Income protection for up to 45 days due to a catastrophic illnesses/injury . Available to part-time, and VRS Plan 1 and 2 employees who enroll.
  • Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) – Job protected leave for family or own serious health conditions. Contact Francesca Jones at 804-365-4688 for more information.
  • Long-Term Disability – Paid for 100% by HCPS for full and part-time employees. Benefits begin at 180 days and offers up to 60% income replacement.
  • Short-Term Disability –Optional benefit for short-term disability for part-time and VRS Plan 1 and 2 employees. Employees may choose a 14 or 44 day waiting period and a 40% or 60% income replacement for up to 6 months.
