The payments begin when the candidate starts and are disbursed over time. The contract terms are:

Market price: $1,300 USDEst.

Payment schedule: Paid monthly over 12 months

St. Joseph Villa, located in Flourtown, PA, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain/Pastoral Care Team Member to provide spiritual and emotional support to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, residents, their families, and staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a member of the Chaplain/Pastoral Care Team, the successful candidate will:

  • Possess the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team to support the emotional well-being of the sisters and residents.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Possess knowledge of or is willing to learn Catholic ethics, especially the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services.
  • Strive to consistently deliver compassionate and professional care through their ministry on the Spiritual/Pastoral Care team.
  • Assist coworkers, as assigned, when unusual work circumstances or emergencies occur.
  • Be a vital member of the Pastoral Care Team, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary team members to meet the holistic and spiritual needs of the Sisters and residents.
  • Collaborate with the Palliative Care team in consultations about a resident’s care and treatment.
  • Offer bereavement services to the dying resident and their loved ones.
  • Complete appropriate resident documentation on Point Click Care.
  • Determine daily priority of pastoral visitation needs in consultation with the community team members.
  • Notify appropriate person(s) on the status change of a resident in collaboration with the nursing staff.
  • Notify the Area Delegate on a death in a Sister’s family.
  • Assist residents in coping with the psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects of diminishment and illness.
  • Be available to assist other members of the Spiritual/Pastoral Care Team and the family of lay residents who are preparing a funeral for their loved one.
  • Plan and carry out all of the details of a Sister’s funeral from the time of death to burial.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • One to two years’ experience in Pastoral ministry, i.e., visiting the sick in parishes or in a health-care related setting.
  • Ability to relate/communicate with residents while exhibiting an understanding, compassion, and sensitivity toward all residents/families.
  • Ability to exhibit judgment and a sense of responsibility.

Educational Requirements:

  • Holds a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Care, Spirituality, or a similar discipline preferred.
  • Experience in spiritual/pastoral ministry preferred.
  • Willing to engage in ongoing education in this ministry.
  • CPE recommended.

This is a full-time position with varying shifts (8-5 or 12-8).
