Overview
Utah Ag Experiment Station Crops Farm Foreman (exempt, 12-month appointment); Logan UT
This is a full time, fiscal year (12-month) appointment with Utah Agricultural Experiment Station (UAES). This position is classified as a Farm Foreman by USU's Human Resources department. The job is located on the UAES production farms in Cache Valley. The successful applicant will work closely with the UAES Crops Manager. The Foreman will conduct general crop production practices, coordinate deliveries, transport feed products and manure, and maintain adequate records of transport and delivery of the products. Additionally, he/she will assist in the everyday duties and responsibilities of the farm. She/he must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate the busy harvest season and hauling of products. Occasional weekend and Holiday work is required.
Responsibilities
Communicate and provide adequate records for both feed and manure products effectively to proper personnel.
Assist in farm responsibilities which could include, but are not restricted to soil preparation, planting, watering, spraying, and harvesting of commodities.
Operate equipment carefully and effectively to ensure proper storage and handling of said products.
Work closely with Farm Manager to maintain equipment and facilities; and provide associated records.
Hire, schedule and manage an appropriate number of hourly student workers to assist in farm operations.
Will require availability in the middle of the night for irrigation and hay production as well as overtime hours in the busy production season.
Maintain currency on Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and appropriate licensing.
Operate within an allotted budget.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree or equivalent in an agriculturally-related discipline.
Two years of crop production experience.
May require evening and weekend availability.
Valid Utah Driver's License and ability to obtain Class A CDL required within first 60 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to receive and ship materials
Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, with vendors, and university staff and faculty members.
Requires walking/standing approximately 65% of time; sitting approximately 20% of time; lifting up to 100 lbs. approximately 5% of time; stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 10% of time.
Requires ability to operate and maintain agricultural equipment and trucks.
Requires ability to read written instructions, regulations, and other documentation and use appropriate sources to locate valid information related to position responsibilities.
