Finance Director\ Caribou, ME FT/Days Permanent Opportunity\ \ Job Description:\ \ Finance Director needed to help operate a locally based non-profit organization with a strong focus on community development projects. Excellent fit for a qualified individual thats invested in bringing new social and economic opportunities to northern Maine. Generous salary and benefits package available: \$86,000 - \$129,000 annual salary; earned PTO, health/dental/vision coverage, life/long-term/short-term disability insurance, and retirement plan with employer match of up to 5% gross wages. Full-Time/Days; 8:00 AM 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday; flexibility for after-hours meetings and events required.\ \ The Finance Director will be responsible for the preparation and oversight of all financial affairs within the organization. Employee will provide strategic fiscal planning, develop and oversee the distribution of department and project budgets, maintain accurate records of current assets, and cooperate with auditors to ensure that all operations meet legal requirements and ethical business standards. Desired candidate will have five or more years of professional background in accounting or finance management, extensive knowledge of non-profit business operations, and previous experience with grant writing.\ \ Responsibilities:\

  • Document and maintain complete and accurate financial records.
  • Collect and organize supporting information for all financial transactions.
  • Maintain a general journal and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Perform invoice and voucher entries, review account entries on a daily basis, and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Set up and manage new procedures and controls for accounting, timekeeping, payroll, property management, and inventory systems.
  • Provide accounting services to outside agencies under contract with the organization.
  • Prepare departmental budgets and establish guidelines for asset divisions for individual project budgets.
  • Assist staff with the preparation of budgets for funding applications.
  • Analyze proposed and current budgets for feasibility.
  • Prepare forecasting of expected income reports for the Executive Board.
  • Produce timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Organize and enforce compliance procedures for financial transactions and accounting records.
  • Liaise with Finance/Audit Committee members when appropriate.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports on the financial activity of individual projects.
  • Review financial statements with management personnel.
  • Direct internal audits and review accounting and administrative controls.
  • Prepare supporting information for annual audits and liaise with the auditors.
  • Direct and coordinate external audit processes and relationships with funding sources and audit firms.
  • Supervise members of the financial operations team.
  • Attend meetings and other functions on behalf of the organization.
  • Oversee the management of leases, contracts and other financial commitments.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting/Business Management required. CPA or masters degree preferred.
  • At least five years of professional accounting experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or government regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and standard office equipment.
  • Professional communication skills; ability to present information in a clear and organized manner.
  • Previous experience with grant writing and non-profit related work highly valued.
