Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
Functions in all capacities of Technician 2 with the following additions.
Must have demonstrated ability to fabricate high level systems independently such as Van Nes Prosthesis, Hip Disarticulation Prosthesis, HKAFO’s, TLSO’s.
Contribute in training of less experienced staff
Participate in hospital sponsored community/patient events
Fabricates all orthoses and prostheses as directed and delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with departmental scope of practice.
Maintain a high level of excellence in fabrication with minimal refabrications and can independently perform both high and low complex fabrication.
Has ability to inspect devices for Clinical Standards of Practice and accuracy as needed and directed by the Lab Supervisor.
Create positive plaster molds, polish and attach metal work, laminate prosthetic sockets, thermoform plastic, cut, grind and smooth all materials
Fit patients with shoes and shoe lifts as needed
Cares for and comes in contact with infants, toddlers, school age and adolescent patients and their caretakers
Manage inventory supplies and equipment
Contribute to the training of students and residents as needed
In addition, manage all responsibilities of the tech 1 position
Required Skills/Abilities
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Certified Orthotic/Prosthetic Technician with the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics, inc. preferred or exceptional onsite training as a technician.
10 years of technical experience with a minimum of 3 years at SRC.
Must have demonstrated the ability to fabricate high level orthotic and/or prosthetic devices such as Van Nes Prosthesis, HKAFO’s, Hip Disarticulations, etc.
Must have sufficient knowledge and capability to fabricate all types of orthoses and prostheses assigned by the lab supervisor
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills
Working Environment
Working conditions: Inside
Working Position: Sitting, Standing, Walking
Physical Demands: Very Heavy
Physical Requirements: Lifting/Carrying, Pushing/Pulling, Repetitive Movement, & Stooping/Kneeling/Bending
An Individual in this position will be required to list or carry weight in this group: Between 75-100 lbs
Sensory/Communicative activities essential to the performance of this position: Hearing, Seeing, Speaking, Feeling, Smelling
An Individual in this position will be exposed to: Inside environment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Loud noise, Chemical hazards, and Respiratory hazards
