The purpose of this position is to advance the Department of Revenue's mission to achieve compliance with Minnesota Tax Laws. This position will respond to inquiries related to technical and administrative tax issues from phone calls and emails. Specialists in this position will provide service to internal and external customers necessary to determine proper compliance with all provisions of the Minnesota Income Tax Act. This position will be completing audits. In addition, this position performs all aspects of the compliance cycle including customer service, education, tax policy, audit and progressive enforcement. Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or in a state bordering Minnesota. This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies and is being posted at three job class levels: Revenue Tax Specialist, Revenue Tax Specialist Intermediate, and Revenue Tax Specialist Senior. Final job class will be determined based on successful applicant's qualifications. These positions are anticipated to start in January of 2025. Minimum Qualifications Revenue Tax Specialist Minimum Qualifications: One (1) year * of full-time professional experience in accounting or auditing *An Associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute one (1) year of experience; Master’s degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD may substitute for twenty-four (24) months of experience. Majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Legal, Business Management, Marketing, or other closely related fields are acceptable. Must have reliable transportation or a valid class D driver's license. Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following during the interview process: Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles as evidenced by academic coursework or related work experience. Knowledge of personal computers, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications/software. Human relations, communication skills necessary to deal with taxpayers and workplace associates in a professional and effective manner. Problem-solving skills and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position. Revenue Tax Specialist Intermediate Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years* of full-time professional experience in accounting or auditing OR Certification (satisfactory completion of probation) as a Revenue Tax Specialist *An Associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute one (1) year of experience; Master’s degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD may substitute for twenty-four (24) months of experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute one (1) year of experience; Master’s degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD may substitute for twenty-four (24) months of experience. Majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Legal, Business Management, Marketing, or other closely related fields are acceptable. Preferred Qualifications Revenue Tax Specialist or Revenue Tax Specialist Intermediate or Revenue Tax Specialist Senior Preferred Qualifications: Experience auditing or knowledge of issues related to Corporate Franchise Tax. A bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, finance, economics, business admin or business management. Master’s degree with a major in accounting, finance, economics, business admin or business management or Taxation or CPA. Knowledge of Federal and State Partnerships, S-Corps, C-Corp, Estate and/or Fiduciary tax laws. Negotiation skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Physical Requirements Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
