Overview:

Manages, oversees, and coordinates the ongoing operations and maintenance of the Bountiful City Landfill.

Tasks:

Due to the overlapping responsibilities in the streets, storm water, sanitation, recycling and landfill departments, job duties must overlap to accommodate these needs. The Landfill Supervisor may work in any of the four divisions although their main area of responsibility is to their hired position.
Performs a variety of managerial, supervisory and administrative tasks related to planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the landfill site.
Manages the ongoing operations of the landfill; assures operational compliance with federal codes (Subtitle D) and state regulations governing hazardous waste, drainage and ground water protection systems; coordinates and assists state inspection personnel as needed to evaluate landfill operation.
Assists in the development and implementation of standard operating policies and procedures and patron rules and regulations.
Assigns personnel and equipment to maintain scheduled operations; oversees the training of personnel in the operation of equipment; oversees safety program; establishes priorities for equipment repair and purchase.
Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials to conform with departmental needs and goals.
Operates landfill equipment as needed; instructs and trains operators.
Proficient in operating snow removal equipment when required.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics:

Ability to communicate effectively and the ability to understand the job functions of other positions at the landfill.
Must have knowledge of safety requirements and hazards related to equipment operation.
Must understand scale house and computer systems operations.
Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance and repair.
Ability to work and perform under adverse conditions.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
Must be available for 24-hour emergency call out.

Qualifications:

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.

Must have a valid CDL Class A driver’s license.

Must have and maintain SWANA MOLO certification.

Must have five (5) years experience in the operation and maintenance of landfill operations, and two (2) years specialized training related to hazardous waste, landfill management, and general administration provided through professionally sponsored workshops, seminars, college or vocational studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, driving record check and drug test.
