How do I record a cash or card-machine payment so the walk-in is marked paid?

Cash payment exists on the register; walk-in booking pay is pay now or complimentary only—not a walk-in cash mark-as-paid action.

Staff POS supports cash payment on the register for retail, but walk-in sauna and cold plunge bookings only accept pay now or complimentary—not a mark-as-paid flag on the reservation. Record a separate register cash sale for retail, or mark the walk-in complimentary and note the external payment when they paid on another terminal.

What Zettlor does today

Cash payment exists at POS. Register charge uses tap or insert a card at the register using Stripe's in-browser card form. Walk-in reservation payment is pay now or complimentary only—there is no walk-in cash mark-as-paid path on the booking itself.

This behavior is partial: some of it is live, and the rest is a desk workaround rather than a missing settings screen you should hunt for. Guest booking, cancel, and credit self-serve steps stay on Help. This page is for operators.

Desk path

For retail paid cash, run POS with cash on the register. For walk-ins paid on an external terminal, either charge a card at the register on Zettlor POS or mark the booking complimentary and note the external payment on the reservation.

Do not invent a settings path beyond what is listed here. If the product does not include a control, the desk workaround is the path.

Failure mode

Front desk expects a walk-in cash button like their old scheduler. They comp everyone because cash walk-ins cannot be marked paid on the booking record, skewing revenue reporting.

Operator example

Reddit NYC takes cash for towels on the register, but a walk-in sauna guest who pays cash on a standalone terminal gets a complimentary booking plus a staff note about the external payment.

A sauna and cold plunge operator can copy the shape of this example without copying another brand's private pricing or customer lists.

How to do this

  1. For store retail, open POS, select the customer, and choose cash on the register.
  2. For walk-in sessions, use pay now through Zettlor or complimentary when they already paid elsewhere.
  3. Add a staff note on the reservation when payment happened outside Zettlor so the desk has context.

Can I mark a walk-in booking paid in cash?

Walk-in payment is pay now or complimentary only. Cash on a walk-in booking is not a built mark-as-paid action—use POS for retail or complimentary plus a note.

Does POS cash work for retail?

Yes. Cash on the register at POS completes retail sales without a card charge.
